The protection and management of transboundary groundwater resources within the Peel River basin and Western Mackenzie Delta requires an understanding of the types, distribution, and characteristics of surficial aquifers within this region, yet little groundwater-related information is available. This report, completed by SLR in association with Aurora Geosciences on behalf of the Government of the Northwest Territories in collaboration with the Government of Yukon, presents the results of a desktop-based transboundary assessment of potential surficial aquifers and their vulnerability to existing land use activities within the Yukon and NWT portions of the Peel River basin. Our work broadly aligns with similar assessments completed by Levson et al. (2018) for the portion of the Liard River basin in British Columbia, by Palmer (2020) for the portion of the Liard River basin in the Yukon and NWT, and by SLR (2025) for the Stewart River watershed in the Yukon.
